My husband is a neat freak. His OCD often causes him to move things out of sight. Unfortunately he doesn't often remember where he moved them. I have a photographic memory and typically I remember where I put things. When they're moved, they're lost. I can't count the number of times I've asked. . . "Where is the . . .?" With the response, "Open Your Eyes!" and the counter response, "My eyes ARE open!" Only to come and have him find the lost item hidden behind something else and not where it should have been. It started off as a huge annoyance until Jessica was quick to point out to her dad one day that "Mom doesn't like it when you say 'Open your eyes.' " After that we have slung the phrase around as a family joke whenever something is seemingly lost.
A few weeks ago, Jessica lost her first tooth followed promptly by the second. It's been quite an experience for her and for us, wondering just how much wiggling to do and how often. Should we yank it out quick or let it fall out on it's own? How long is too long to wait to get it out? We all survived the ordeal and it's the first time the Tooth Fairy has come to visit the Marcano residence. After going to bed early the first night and waking up less than thirty minutes later, she burst into tears because the fairy hadn't come yet. I explained that it must be because her dad and I were still up and the fairy couldn't possibly come while we were witnessing the arrival. She insisted that we go straight to bed and tried again. The Tooth Fairy did come and Jess was happy to earn some money to stock up on none other than her favorite candy or gum.
So today we had our photo shoot for posterity. For some reason I had a hard time getting a shot of those tiny little lost teeth. The first shot would have been perfect had it not been for the obvious flaw. "Open Your Eyes!" I commanded. She promptly obeyed and we all fell into a fit of giggles.

this is a great photo... and what do teeth go for these days?
Well, I wondered the same. Rian got too much for hers. Jess was happy with 2 dollars each. I remember getting a quarter.
i think my babies will be lucky to get a silver dollar... chi-ching :) maybe that is why i don't have children... God knows they would be traumatized by the fact that the tooth fairy loves them less then their cousins... and i will just tell them... maybe its true... stop crying and clean your room.
Or you could feed them my story. Parents have to pay santa/easter bunny/tooth fairy to perform these services. We have less money than your cousins! We afford what we can. It's the thought that he/she came that counts! I figured that $2.00 wasn't too much and yet a LOT to my 5 year old. That's how I felt when I got a quarter - it was a lot compared to pennies I was used to. It's called inflation my dear. I think Rian got like $5 or $10 for her teeth. I don't remember, but it was an insane amount for a bit of enamel.
